Autumn Drive to Copper Harbor - Part 1
Last week, Remote Workforce Keweenaw featured remote worker Richelle Winkler! Check out her remote work story at this link to the Remote Workforce Keweenaw Facebook page!
After spending Thursday taking care of township business, Julie and I headed up to Copper Harbor by way of M-26 last Friday to enjoy the fall color along the Lake Superior shore and to go up and over Brockway Mountain. Our first stop along the way was Ten-Foot Falls on the Eagle River.
See it in motion on a Facebook reel at this link.
At Great Sand Bay we watched the waves roll in off of Lake Superior and saw two freighters pass one another on the distant horizon
We so frequently take in the view of Eagle Harbor from atop Mt. Baldy that I decided to take in the reverse angle on this visit to the area.
The drive from Eagle Harbor to Brockway Mountain Drive has some fun twists and rolls to it. Keep a safe speed and a close eye out for bicycle riders as the road is narrow with very little shoulder!
The highway also runs along Lake Bailey which is well worth making a stop to view this time of year as the reflecting trees and high ridge on the opposite shore and water lilies on its surface provide a beautiful site!
Still shots do not quite provide the full effect of this view so be sure to check out my Facebook reel panning across Lake Bailey at this link.
Shortly after Lake Bailey, the new Silver River bridge comes into view. Immediately after crossing it, we took the fork to the right and started making our way up Brockway Mountain Drive. The colors here were spectacular and, as we had seen throughout our drive on M-26 along the lake, there was a surprising amount of red for this late in the season.
Next time we will be checking out the view from the top of Brockway Mountain!
