Back to the Sturgeon
With hot weather in the forecast and a desire to knock out more mileage in pursuit of our #hike100NCT, Julie and I headed back down to the Sturgeon River with our friends Mark and Jennifer to hike the North Country Trail. It would be an odd juxtaposition of 90 degree weather and emerging fall color.
Fortunately there would be a decent breeze throughout much of the hike to go along with a forest-shaded trail to keep the conditions surprisingly pleasant.
We flushed up a sandhill crane a couple of times as we made our way eastward along the river.
If you stay dialed into the surroundings, beaver signs present themselves all along this portion of the trail.
Heading northward from the river, we stopped to enjoy lunch at the waterfall that I had cleared deadfall from earlier in the week. I posted a couple of reels from this waterfall at these links on Instagram: reel 1 and reel 2.
We then headed back to the river where lower angle of the late afternoon sun gave the views along the trail new perspective as we completed just short of a six-mile hike.
You can see my GoPro video from this hike at this link to the Remote Workforce Keweenaw YouTube channel:
Over the weekend we got out to Lake Superior at Agate Beach with several of our friends. With a wind out of the west, the water was amazingly comfortable by Lake Superior standards!
