Copper Harbor Ski
The past week started with some awesome weather for a drive up to Copper Harbor to ski from town into Fort Wilkins State Park. This fort dating back to 1844 was established to protect the economic interests when the copper boom started in the Keweenaw. Winter is a particularly cool time to check it out because of how quiet it is this time of year. You can’t help but imagine as you ski through the fort what frontier life had to be like at this remote winter outpost.
You can check out my GoPro video from this ski on the Remote Workforce Keweenaw YouTube channel at this link:
A big part of my week was focused on ramping up my training in preparation for next month’s Border to Border Ski. I put in 15 and 19 miles skis on the MTU Trails on Tuesday and Thursday and capped those off with a 37.5 mile (60k) ski at Swedetown in Calumet yesterday.
We celebrated Valentine’s Day this past week with take-out from Sky Sushi in Houghton on Tuesday and going with friends to see the comedian Ismo last night at Finlandia University’s Hirvonen Hall in Hancock.
