Enter the Mud Season - Part 1
I have been on a hiatus recently due to a number of factors. The Planning Commission and the Township Board wrapped up a Covid-interrupted update to the Chassell Township Zoning Ordinance. I knocked out four more grant proposals. We started moving into our recently completed garage. Most significantly, the belated entry into the mud season meant it has been a time to squeeze in the final quality cross country skis of the season and to ready our cabin for the Airbnb season which starts for us on Friday.
Winter has done its best to hold on this year! While I didn’t go out to ski this morning (April 27th), a number of friends reported really nice conditions on social media. We have enjoyed some really great April skis and I will share some highlights!
April 1st at MTU:
April 3rd at Swedetown:
April 8th on the MTU Trails:
On April 10th we had an awesome ski at Swedetown which included a little off-trail on the swamp between the dog trails and Mama Bear:
So when I talk about NO congestion here in the Keweenaw, imagine living in a metro and what you would expect to see at a ski area after a decent snow. On April 14th we headed up to Swedetown in Calumet and our friend Mark’s vehicle was the only one in the lot!
April 16th at Swedetown:
April 17th was a particularly amazing ski on the MTU Trails. It was in the upper 30s with bright sunshine. We had a great time running into friends along the way and even saw guys skiing without their shirts on!
It seemed like winter might never end this year, but when you love being outdoors in this stuff it is like a bonus! Spring is on the way though and I will cover that in “Enter the Mud Season - Part 2” !
