Entertaining Family in the Keweenaw
A really awesome aspect of living in the Keweenaw is that when family comes to town you have endless opportunities for keeping them entertained. In the last issue of the RWK Newsletter when we went to Mt. Horace Greeley, we took family members straight from the airport directly on the hike. Seeing as they had gotten up at 3:00 a.m. that morning to travel here, they weren’t quite up for the second hike we took that day. While they headed back, I went ahead and hiked to the Gratiot Lake Overlook with the rest of our hiking group.
While the view would clearly be better in the spring, fall, or winter, this is still a great hike in the woods with a decent elevation gain if you are seeking some cardio!
The following day was very warm and provided an excellent opportunity to hit the lake on kayaks!
We topped off the day with a much cooler visit to McLain State Park on Lake Superior where we grabbed ice cream at Sundae in the Park and checked out a couple of windsurfers who were taking advantage of the stiff breeze.
Tuesday we took a drive up to Eagle Harbor to scramble on the rocky shore by the lighthouse.
From there we headed over to the Jampot to snag some treats before checking out Jacobs Creek Falls. I dropped the crew off there so they could hike the trail up the gorge to the Holy Transfiguration Monastic Park. I drove up to the top of the hill and hiked down the trail and met back up with them at Arnold Falls.
On our hike back to the truck, we spent some time exploring the hoist house ruins of the Arnold Mine.
