Epic Silver River Bushwhack!
On Sunday we did one of our favorite hikes, which was really a bushwhack, in the Silver River! The hike starts easy enough on a two-track, but quickly goes off-trail and into the brush!
While wading through deep fern and thimbleberry bushes, someone managed to kick up a nest of yellowjackets and Julie found herself in the middle of a swarm. She received numerous painful stings in the process. A little bit of relief would come from getting into the cool river.
The Silver River runs over a moss-covered conglomerate base. The trick is planting your steps on the moss as the bare rock is incredibly slick. Once in the river, we headed upstream over a course that would take us along tall rock walls, over or under numerous fallen trees, around deep pools, and up a wide array of slide waterfalls.
After hiking across conglomerate for much of the hike, we reached a flow more characteristic of basalt which provided a distinctly different look and allowed for more of a straight drop fall in the river.
