Greetings from Finland!
We headed out from the Keweenaw on Tuesday evening by air to Chicago. Our friend Maureen who is an engineer and has frequently stayed at our place on #workcations picked us up from O'Hare and we stayed the night with her and Dan.
Maureen treated us to an awesome breakfast in the Andersonville neighborhood and then she dropped us off back at the airport for the next leg of our journey which was an 8:15 flight to Frankfurt, Germany.
The 2:30 p.m. flight to Germany was smooth and uneventful. I managed to get some sleep, but Julie wasn't so lucky. We reached Frankfurt at 5:30 a.m. local time. Our leg to Helsinki was going out at 9:25. Much to Julie's chagrin I managed to catch a nap in the terminal until 7:45. I then somehow managed to sleep the entire flight from Frankfurt to Helsinki. The day had started overcast and rainy in Frankfurt, but became a crystal clear blue sky as we arrived in Helsinki!
The first order of business after grabbing the luggage and checking my skis through to Kuusamo was to figure out how to get Julie on the right bus to Hameenlinna to link up with Reijo and Petra. It was a little bumpy, but we got it sorted out and Julie was on her way on the 3:05 bus with only one transfer to make along the way.
My flight to Kuusamo is set to board at 7:30 so with four hours to work with I grabbed the train from the airport to downtown Helsinki for 4.20 Euros and was there in just over 30 minutes. I am so glad I did, because the city was beautiful under the clear sky.
I should start heading for the gate. The next stop is Kuusamo!
