Hiking the Pilgrim River Watershed Project
Thursday turned out to be a sunny day last week, so it was perfect for both hiking and yard work. In order to cover both bases, we hiked close to home at the Pilgrim River Watershed Project on Boundary Road. True to its name, the road forms the northern boundary of Chassell Township. We made the full loop hike which covers almost 3.7 miles and follows along the Pilgrim River on its northernmost section.
Last week also saw Remote Workforce Keweenaw feature remote worker Brooke Harris who recently came back to the Keweenaw from Washington state to work remotely as a consultant!
You can learn Brooke’s story on the Remote Workforce Keweenaw Facebook page at this link.
Saturday started with one those amazing Portage Lake sunrises that we so often get in the fall. I captured this photo as our guests enjoyed their morning coffee on our deck!
I then squeezed in a 5-mile rail-trail run where there was still plenty of fall color to be seen!
After a quick shower, I was off to to meet our Chassell Historical Organization Curator Mat Moore at the historic interpretive trail where we would spend 3 1/2 hours readying the trail’s corridor for the construction of its boardwalk by DP Construction.
Mat on the trail’s corridor running over the former site of the mill.
Looking onto Pike Bay at the site of the former mill’s hot pond. Stay tuned to the Remote Workforce Keweenaw Newsletter to track progress on the project!
