Holy Transfiguration Monastic Park and Other Miscellaneous Adventures - Part 1
Where should I start? The last ten days have been a blur! Lots of meetings, repairs, yard work, wood splitting, running, and even a TV 6 News interview. I also learned about six more remote workers here in the Keweenaw during this time span! All that said, I am going to focus on our adventures starting with our hike last Sunday at the Holy Transfiguration Monastic Park.
Easily overlooked as you drive the Eagle Harbor cutoff from US 41, the trailhead for the park can be found on the left a short distance after crossing Jacobs Creek. The trails located here provide the opportunity to explore both the Jacobs Creek Gorge and the Arnold Mine site. There is a crystal clear pond within the park that provides beautiful reflections as well as the opportunity for meditation.
We hiked the road down to M-26 which afforded an incredible view over Great Sand Bay on Lake Superior before hiking back up the gorge from Jacobs Creek Falls.
Once we hiked up the gorge, we followed the trail along the creek past Arnold Falls to the Arnold Mine site where we passed the poor rock pile and then explored the ruins of the hoist house.
You can check out my GoPro video from the hike at this link to the Remote Workforce Keweenaw YouTube channel:
After two solid days of chores related to our Airbnb, Wednesday found us on a hike to Hungarian Falls with our friend Mark. We hiked along the rim of the gorge above Dover Creek to the top of the lower falls and explore both the middle and upper falls.
We came across cool wildflowers along the way including pink lady slippers.
Thursday we drove down to Baraga County to hike into Black Slate and Quartzite Falls on the Slate River. The mosquitoes were absolutely ravenous at Black Slate Falls until a passing shower knocked them down.
I have uploaded some short videos of the waterfalls at the Holy Transfiguration Monastic Park, Hungarian Falls, and Black Slate Falls on my Waterfalls board on the Remote Workforce Keweenaw Pinterest Boards at https://www.pinterest.com/RemoteWorkforceKeweenaw/waterfalls/
