Following Julie’s and my bushwhack hike last Saturday in the Silver River Canyon, we were back up there the following day with our hiking group. This would be a longer adventure as we started farther downstream and ended farther upstream. Julie switched her footwear from sandals to hiking boots and I stuck with my Teva sandals. Our initial bushwhack on the hike would take us through a sea of partially-ripened thimbleberry bushes!
This went on for quite awhile until we finally reached the river which is carved out of the conglomerate bedrock. A fascinating aspect of this hike is seeing how the white cedar and pine have managed to gain footholds over the bare rock.
It takes a reasonably good level of fitness and coordination as well as a willingness to crawl over/under fallen trees when taking this hike.
As gentle reminder that autumn is not that far away, we ran across a few leaves that had already changed color and fallen in the river.
With the temperature in the 80s, the canyon was the perfect escape from the heat!
While I have never heard any names given to any of the waterfalls in the canyon, one of my favorites is this stair-like falls that is actually very easy climb.
At the farthest point we would travel upstream, our group would encounter this waterfall that is by far the tallest and steepest in the canyon.
