Thanksgiving Week
Thanksgiving provided the opportunity to reflect back on those things we are grateful for: the good health of friends and family; another successful Airbnb season made possible by a full schedule of outstanding guests; and significant forward progress on the projects here in Chassell as well as with the Remote Workforce Keweenaw initiative!
The week itself got off to a false start due to marginal driving conditions on Sunday. We had planned to hike the Bete Grise Reserve, but thought better of taking the risk to drive in marginal conditions since we could put it off for another time. Instead, we hit the rail-trail with the dogs!
First thing on Monday morning I was in Keweenaw Automotive up in Houghton to have the tires replaced on the truck. Sunday’s weather further reinforced the timing of that decision! While waiting for the work to be performed, a wide assortment of deer hunting stories were shared among employees and others in the lobby which proved to be more entertaining than perusing the morning’s social media on my phone.
Diamond House International completed its work on the Remote Workforce Keweenaw hats I ordered for my initiative partners and remote workers. If you are a remote worker here in the Keweenaw, please drop me an email at dkmeyers77@gmail.com and tell me your story! I would like to provide you a hat to help you promote the positive impact you are having on our region’s economy and to discuss the possibility of featuring you in a remote worker vignette!
The sunrises over the lake have not disappointed this week! These were a treat for our last sets of Airbnb guests for the season. Even with the Covid pandemic going on, we have been fully booked during both 2020 and 2021. A special thanks to all of you who made that possible!
While in town to run errands this week on a particularly mild day with no wind, we caught this beautiful refection of the iconic Lift Bridge on the canal!
Yesterday we enjoyed a cooler day with bright sunshine hiking the River Trail at the Nara Nature Park on the southeast side of Houghton!
With the Thanksgiving holiday behind us and our Airbnb season at a close, we are looking ahead to the arrival of more significant snow to get the cross country ski season rolling!
