Touring the Keweenaw (Part 2)
When I left you last, we were showing off the Keweenaw to our friends Ron and Stephanie who were visiting us from Kansas. Heading eastward from Eagle River, we would make our next stop at Jacobs Creek Falls.
Unfortunately, the Jampot was closed so we continued on to Great Sand Bay to take in the spectacular view of Lake Superior!
Continuing along the Lake Superior shore, we would then stop to walk the grounds at the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse.
We would then drive to the summit of Brockway Mountain to take in the view of the emerging fall colors.
Driving to the east end of Brockway Mountain we would stop to take in the view over Copper Harbor.
We would pick up US 41 in Copper Harbor and start making our way back home. The trees over the next ten miles were particularly beautiful.
We would stop at 4 Suns across from the Quincy Mine on our return trip where Ron and Stephanie treated us to baked parmesan crusted whitefish! Upon returning home I would learn that the interview I had given awhile back about the Remote Workforce Keweenaw initiative appeared in Great Lakes Now. You can read the article at this link: https://www.greatlakesnow.org/2025/09/climate-migrations-impact-on-michigans-upper-peninsula/
I would fire up the sauna which seemed like a fitting way to wrap up a great day in the Keweenaw and like those Old Milwaukee Beer commercials back in the day when someone would say “it doesn’t get any better than this”, it did as the northern lights would make their appearance!
The next day we would visit the grounds at the Champion Copper Mine in Painesdale before enjoying a walk along the Lake Superior shore at Agate Beach.
We would also make a stop at Wyandotte Falls and grab pasties from Krupps in Twin Lakes as I needed to get back in time for a Chassell Recreation Committee meeting at 6:00 p.m. and Chassell Planning Commission meeting at 7:00 p.m. I will touch on those meetings next time.
