Walleye Fishing on Portage Lake
I love to fish, but I have been so busy with other things this summer that I just have not gotten out many times to do it; as a result, I was all over an offer from my friend Eero to get out and do some walleye fishing on Monday of this week. We headed out onto the lake just before sunrise.
The fishing started slowly as I pulled in a couple of bullhead to get the day going, but then both the walleye and the smallmouth bass started hitting. It wasn’t long before I caught this nice eating sized walleye.
The action heated up so much that I actually caught this walleye and smallmouth bass simultaneously. Both went back in the lake as the walleye was 1/8th inch short of being a keeper.
We both did well. Eero caught this good sized smallmouth as well as this nice walleye below. We ended up bringing back four keepers each and we had a great dinner with some of them!
After dinner, Julie and I got out for a walk on the Chassell Fitness Trail and got in some repetitions at the stations along the way.
It turned out to be a great day to be both on the water and in the woods!
